Our Vision, Mission, and Roots in Charleston, SC

Prior to the North Central Neighborhood Council’s formation, the organization had its informal start in 1936 when citizens came together to voice concerns about neighborhood issues to the city government.

Our Vision

North Central Neighborhood Association has a vision for its residents, businesses, schools, places of worship, nonprofits, organizations, and city government to work together in partnership for the betterment of our community. The North Central Neighborhood Council was organized in 1976 as a way for the residents to have their voices heard.

Our Mission

North Central Neighborhood Association has a mission to address issues and concerns related to community safety, revitalization, economic growth and development, beautification, education, cultural initiatives, historical preservation, zoning, development and design, access to public services and spaces, environmental initiatives, charitable outreach, health and wellness initiatives, and use of recreational facilities for the betterment our community.

From our bylaws, a few of our mission areas:

Increasing residents’ input and participation on issues concerning the economic growth, redevelopment, and design of property in our neighborhood.

Providing NCNA members an effective line of communication and access to local government officials.

Encouraging residents and businesses to work together to improve the quality of life in our neighborhood through revitalization, education, and communication.

Addressing issues that impact our neighborhood including education, crime, real estate development, politics, health and human services, livability, and more.
