The NCNA Legacy Tree Program In The News

More About The Legacy Tree Program And How To Participate!

The city of Charleston runs an innovative public-private partnership to improve the greening of our streets. If you live in Charleston, you know we can use all the shade we can get! For $295/tree, the city will plant a space-appropriate tree in a property’s right of way (the city-owned “verge” between the sidewalk and the curb), water it for a year, and prune it for its lifetime.

By organizing efficiently at the neighborhood level, the city will donate a free tree for every two we buy. So if we buy 10, we’ll have 15 (the total the city thinks it can support in North Central this year). And since the NCNA is now an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, your tree investment is a tax-deductible donation.

You can request a tree along or near your own property or choose to donate a tree for a designated High-Impact Plot (i.e. a spot that could use some shade but where there might not be a resident or the resources).

Thank you for contributing to the beautification, resilience, and livability of North Central for us and future generations to enjoy. Your gift is a legacy.

(Don’t want to buy a whole tree? Please donate what you can here.)
